Position Information
Classification Title Mental Health Counselor II FLSA Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling psychology or a related field and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
UHC Minimum:
- Master's degree in social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
- Must have at least an associate license in the State of Georgia (LMSW, LAPC, LAMFT)
- Must apply for full licensure within 90 days of meeting State clinical and supervisory hour requirements.
- 2 or more years' experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are similar to traditional and non-traditional college students.
UHC Preferred:
- Independent licensure in GA by start date (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PsyD, PhD)
- CPR/AED certification required within first year of employment.
- Training and 2 years or more of experience working with individuals from various backgrounds
- Skill and/or interest in preventive psychological education and outreach programs.
- 1 year or more of experience working in a college counseling center.
The Mental Health Professional II is an integral member of the CAPS Professional Staff. Clinicians will provide primary, secondary, and tertiary services to eligible members of the UGA community, within the CAPS scope of service. These services include group, individual, crisis interventions, outreach, and consultation. Clinicians provide mental health evaluations, formulation of conceptualization, diagnoses, treatment plans, crisis intervention, and internal/external referrals as needed for best care. Services are delivered in accordance with UHC/CAPS policies and procedures. Clinicians follow professional and organizational standards for care and documentation. All are valued team members who participate in performance improvement initiatives and are actively involved in team activities, i.e. required meetings, committees. Team members demonstrate respect for all while maintaining inclusive attitudes and appreciation of individual aspects of diversity.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Two years of clinical background in a college or university counseling or mental health setting.
- Training and skills in providing telehealth services.
- Advanced skill with disorders typically seen at a university counseling service.
- Background and familiarity with accreditation (JC, APA, IACS) requirements and standards.
- Competence and background in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Knowledge or interest in mental health outreach programming.
- Ability and interest in working in a setting involved in the training and supervision of counseling and psychotherapy to students in training or post-graduate professionals.
- Background in providing supervision of counseling and psychotherapy.
- Competence and background in using an electronic health record.
Physical Demands
Sitting for extended periods, talking, hearing corrected to normal, corrected visual acuity adequate to utilize the electronic health record.

Client/Patient Direct and Support Services:
- Clinical evaluation and counseling/psychotherapy to groups, couples, and individuals, provides crisis counseling, consultation and limited student outreach.
- Provide clinical supervision of new staff, as well as treatment planning, coordinating, referral, and documentation.

- Active involvement in all training programs including supervision of trainees, and educational activities

Outreach and Community Engagement: Provide
- Provide service through clinical workshops and liaison services to students, students groups, and members of the UGA community.

Administrative Tasks and Meetings:
- Be an active, respectful, and engaged member of CAPS & UHC teams and work groups.
- Actively seek to improve services to eligible members of the UGA community.
- Participating in PI projects.
- Attend staff and other assigned meetings/committees.
